This colour-coded image shows the X-ray intensities (white strongest, blue weakest) produced at the focus of the First Flight Modol (FM1) of the XMM telescope by a parallel X-ray beam. Half the energy of the beam was focused within a spot less than 1 mm wide. This corresponds to a resolution of 16 arcsec (about 0.02deg), in line with the XMM telescope specification.
