Much of Northern and Western Germany is visible on this Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) image. To the north on the Elbe River is the port of Hamburg and on the Wesser River is the city of Bremen.
The area of Particular interest though is that surrounding the Rhine extending through the south west corner of the image. The river can be seen passed Frankfurt in the south, before flowing through Bonn and the heavily built up area to the west of the image of Cologne, Dusseldorf, Essen and Dortmund.
