The Comet 9P/Tempel 1 as seen by the OSIRIS Narrow Angle Camera System on board ESA’s Rosetta comet-chaser spacecraft mission, on 30 June 2005, three days before the Deep Impact encounter.
The distance between Rosetta and Tempel 1 was 80 million kilometres. The stars seen in the image are elongated because the Rosetta spacecraft was actively tracking on the moving comet while the image was acquired.
