Go to topicCarried on MetOp, the GOME-2 scanning spectrometer will continue the long-term monitoring of atmospheric ozone started by GOME on ERS and SCIAMACHY on Envisat. Data from GOME-2 will also be used to derive profiles of atmospheric nitrogen dioxide and other gases, which will be used for monitoring and forecasting air quality. High levels of ultraviolet radiation observed by GOME-2 will be used in weather forecasts to alert the public.
