Franz Viehböck was Austria's first astronaut, flying on Soyuz TM-13, 2-10 October 1991, to the Mir space station. With Russian cosmonaut Alexander Volkov and Kazakh cosmonaut Toktar Aubakirov, he spent nearly 8 days in space.
Together with Clemens Lothaller, Viehböck was selected two years earlier for the Soviet-Austrian space project Austro-Mir 91.
