Distance measurements between Herschel primary and secondary mirrors

The optical and mechanical stability of the Herschel telescope was verified by measuring the distance between the primary and secondary mirrors (M1 and M2) after the completion of the mechanical test campaign. The measurements were made using a high precision laser tracker device, visible in this image in the foreground on the left.
