Start-up company Leosphere from ESA’s Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) Noordwijk, the Netherlands, has developed an instrument to measure the wind speed and direction from the ground up to 200 metres. It uses similar ‘lidar’ (light detection and ranging) technology that ESA will use on its Aeolus Earth Explorer Atmospheric Dynamics Mission.
