Andreas Mogensen and other astronaut candidates enjoyed the weightlessness, but the purpose of the flights was scientific research. Over the last two decades these experiments have produced countless scientific papers and have laid the groundwork for research now being conducted in Europe’s Columbus laboratory on the International Space Station. ESA’s parabolic flight campaigns are conducted twice a year under the responsibility of the Directorate of Human Spaceflight.
