Go to topicDigital imaging in dentistry is a growing field because no chemicals are needed, images are instantly available and lower X-ray doses are required. However, with conventional ‘scintillators’ (the unit in the digital camera converting X-rays to visible light) the image resolution is not as good as for conventional X-ray films. The Scint-X structured scintillator dramatically improves the resolution as well as providing higher contrast. At left is a picture taken with a conventional scintillator; at right is a picture using the Scint-X new structured scintillator.
