The Barcelona World Race course travels around the world, from Barcelona in Spain and back. The yachts follow a course known as the 'three cape' route.
The yachts set off from Barcelona on 31 December towards the Gibraltar Strait. Following an Atlantic descent they put the capes of Good Hope (South Africa) Leeuwin (Australia) and Horn (Chile) to port and the continent of Antarctica to starboard. The approximate length of the course is 46 300 km following a Great Circle route, the shortest possible route traced across the map.
The race is expected to finish at the end of March 2011.
