Desertification in northeast Brazil

The application of Indicator of Susceptibility to Desertification (ISD) in the semiarid region of Brazil has shown that the areas susceptible to desertification processes (or that are already suffering from these processes) are land areas that have seen a decrease in the quality of the vegetation. This is due to an increase of agricultural activities and to more severe droughts linked to an increase in the amount of days per year with precipitation below 1 mm.
