The transition between Acidalia Planitia and Tempe Terra from the Mars Express High-Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) nadir and colour channels, combined to form a natural colour view of the region. Centred at around 37°N and 306°E, this image has a ground resolution of about 15 m per pixel. The dendritic channels found commonly on Earth have analogues in the far-flung reaches of the Solar System. Here, it is strong evidence for the existence of water in Mars’ past.
