RAL, besides managing the programme and hosting the development, put together an impressive suite of instruments to support field testing. BAe Systems made available the very sturdy ROBOVOLC rover, together with its sensor and telecom suite. SciSys provided the 'glue' software that allowed the different parts to interoperate, built the executive and the ground station that was used to program the rover course and monitor its motion. MDA-UK provided the obstacle avoidance and piloting system, Roke Manor the camera calibration and visual odometry system, LAAS provided stereo-vision reconstruction and absolute localisation and the University of Oxford a visual odometry system.
