The ESA-developed Short-Arm Human Centrifuge, operated by DLR’s Institute of Aerospace Medicine, can expose two people at a time to increased gravity. It is used to investigate possible ways to limit how astronaut's bodies waste away in weightlessness by using artificial gravity created by spinning the centrifuge. At 45 revolutions per minute of the 1.5-m arms, the rider may experience a force of gravity that is more than six times their own body weight.
