Thermal knife cutting

One of Dutch Space's 'thermal knives' in the process of cutting a Kevlar restraint cable used to hold delicate solar arrays against the satellite during launch. Once in orbit these cables need to be cut. Heating means the Kevlar is gradually weakened instead of suddenly snapping, reducing the shock an array experiences compared to pyros or unwinding rods used by other companies to begin the unfolding of solar arrays.
