Preparing an Argo float

Thanks to a unique approach that combines satellite measurements of ocean colour made available through ESA’s Climate Change Initiative and in situ Argo and Bio-Argo floats, which take direct measurements as they descend and ascend through the water column of the ocean, scientists have worked out how much energy is transported from the surface waters down to the mesopelagic layer by a ‘seasonal mixed-layer pump’.
