Typhoon Mangkhut

Wind speeds at the base of Typhoon Mangkhut near the Philippines measured by ESA’s SMOS mission on 14 September 2018. The SMOS microwave radiometer, which operates in the L-band, has the unique ability to see through clouds and rain to provide reliable estimates of surface wind speeds in intense storms.
