Green vegetation turns brown in summer 2018 near Berlin, Germany. These two images show differences in leaf area index, which is essentially the ratio of foliage to ground, between 16 July 2018 and 22 August 2018. ESA’s Food Security Thematic Exploitation helps farmers to monitor plant health. The platform puts the relevant satellite data, tools, algorithms and other information in one place so that individual users – be that farmers and others involved in agricultural business – can see exactly how their crops are doing. The light grey in the image is cloud shadow, white is cloud and green/grey is forest.
