Advanced manufacturing

Advanced Manufacturing is an ESA initiative that has the central aim to identify emerging manufacturing technologies that open up new industrial possibilities in terms of design freedom, streamlined production stages and reduced cost, along with enhanced performance from the final product.  

The main technology areas are:

• Materials Processing
• Surface Engineering
• Shaping (including additive manufacturing)
• Joining
• Assembly

As of February 2019, 31 activities have been kicked-off with the European Space Industry (28 funded by GSTP and 3 funded by TRP) including a number of parallel activities.
