Before it flies to the Moon on Roscosmos' Luna-Resource lander, ESA's Prospect drill shows its ability to drill samples from down to one metre depth at sub-zero temperatures. The drill has been built by Leonardo. Tests were conducted at the CISAS - Centro di Ateneo di Studi e Attività Spaziali "Giuseppe Colombo" - premises within University of Padova
The image is right before the transfer of the sample to the inlet of the ProSPA instrument, built by Open University, which will analyse samples looking for volatiles including water ice.
