ESA's Space Medicine Team support astronauts before, during and after their missions to ensure optimum health. However, not every astronaut responds in the same way to the same health and fitness programme.
In an effort to further optimise healthcare, the team is calling on scientists to assist with a study into 'inter-individual variability'.
By better understanding why people respond in different ways to the same treatments, experts aim to develop personalised medicine. It is an approach that may be just as effective in space as on Earth.
Scientists interested in contributing to the research topic can do so via the open science platform Frontiers. The submission deadlines are 5 February 2021 for abstracts and 2 July 2021 for full manuscripts.
