The 2020 ESA Space App Camp kicks off today and, like many events at the moment, this year’s edition is taking place online.
Using a virtual workspace, 20 app developers, machine learning and artificial intelligence experts will be tasked with devising innovative apps and feasible business models in one of six areas: food security, health, tourism, coastal monitoring, smart green cities, and agriculture - this last subject in honour of a former ESA employee Luigi Fusco.
Participants will be introduced to Copernicus and learn about the many ways in which big data from space can enrich mobile apps using a dedicated application programming interface for Earth observation data. The 11-day virtual camp will conclude on 21 September with each group presenting their projects to a jury.
