CAVES Science
ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer processes a water sample collected during the 2014 ESA CAVES training in Sardinia, Italy. This type of analysis, known as titration, allows scientists to determine the concentration of a certain component dissolved in the water. Here, Matthias adds an acid solution to establish how many dissolved salts are present in the waters of the underground river that flows into the cave.
