MIRI – the Mid-InfraRed Instrument
MIRI is the instrument on the James Webb Space Telescope that can see mid-infrared light. In order to do this, it will be kept 30 degrees Celsius cooler than the other instruments. MIRI will support the whole range of Webb’s science goals, from observing planetary systems, to studying the early Universe. ESA contributed the Optical System for MIRI.
