Map created from thousands of images obtained from the International Space Station using digital cameras between 2014 and 2020. The insert shows a detail of Paris as example.
The map was released in the paper Environmental risks from artificial nighttime lighting widespread and increasing across Europe. Researchers highlight how invasive night lights are and their negative effects for the environment.
These images have been colour-calibrated and spatially mosaicked in order to give an accurate representation.
