As part of the MTG-I1 launch campaign, the Ariane 5 fairing, that will protect the satellite during launch, is being thoroughly inspected for internal cleanliness, to ensure the environment for the upcoming encapsulation meets the high cleanliness requirements needed for the spacecraft.
MTG-I1 is the first Meteosat Third Generation satellite that is scheduled for launch on an Ariane 5 rocket in December. Once in geostationary orbit, this new satellite, which carries two new extremely sensitive instruments, promises to further bolster Europe's leadership in weather forecasting.
