The new A81 iceberg is around 1550 sq km – that’s the size of Greater London or five times the size of Malta. In comparison, the A-68 iceberg was 5800 sq km when it calved from the Larsen-C Ice Shelf in July 2017, the A-74 berg was 1270 sq km when it calved from the Brunt Ice Shelf in February 2021, while the A-76 iceberg was 4320 sq km when it calved in May 2021 from the Ronne Ice Shelf.
