Launch of Ariane 5 flight V142 from Europe's Spaceport on 12 July 2001, carrying ESA's Artemis advanced telecommunications satellite and BSAT-2B. Unfortunately the launch was only a partial success: the upper stage underperformed, payloads were placed in the wrong orbit. Artemis was raised to its target orbit later by using operational fuel; BSAT-2b was lost.
