Malawi, captured from the International Space Station on 24 September 2023 by ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen. When Andreas shared the picture on social media, he said:
"I snapped this picture as we were flying over Malawi, close to Lake Malawi. Initially, I first thought it was a golf course, but I don’t think it is. Maybe it’s a farm.
Malawi is located in the south-eastern Africa and lays land to Lake Malawi, that is described as of the richest lakes in the world when it comes to animals and plants. Despite the wonders that Lake Malawi provides, animals like the black rhinoceros and the white-backed vulture have become endangered. Regardless of seeing a slow increase over the last decade, the black rhino population has seen several subspieces go extinct and the white-backed vulture has had a rapid decline in population over the last 30 years, going from of least concern to critically endangered."
