Red blood cells undergoing hemolysis after hypergravity exposure

Red blood cells undergoing hemolysis after 30 minute exposure to 7.5 g hypergravity in ESA's Large Diameter Centrifuge. The latest international group to employ the LDC is an all-female team from from Universidad Católica Boliviana ‘San Pablo’in La Paz, Bolivia, with access sponsored by the United Nations as well as ESA. The researchers are investigating whether the high gravity levels experienced during rocket launches might contribute to the anemia afflicting many astronauts in space.
