Airglow is best seen from space, as it is the faint light coming from particles in the upper atmosphere after it has be radiated by sunlight. The yellow and reddish band are different elements, most likely sodium and oxygen, that sit about 80 km and 220 km respectively over Earth’s surface. In the background are also thousands of stars.
