Swarm soon to be exploring earths magnetic field

Swarm is a constellation of three satellites to measure precisely the magnetic signals from Earth's core, mantle, crust and oceans, as well as the ionosphere and magnetosphere. The resulting models will give insight into Earth's interior and space weather

Although we hardly ever think about it, the earth’s magnetic field is forever protecting mankind and its planetin general each dayagainst the sun’s deadliest rays.

However, research has shown that this magnetic field is undergoing unprecedented changes.  To research and better understand these changes in the earth’s magnetic field the European Space Agency, ESA, will soon be launching a new constellation of 3 satellites flying in formation: SWARM.

Launch of this new Earth Explorer mission is planned next October.
