Rosetta has successfully completed its first main thruster burn and is on target for comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. After a test burn in early May, the first main burn took place on May 21st, monitored by members of the Rosetta team in ESA’s European Spacecraft Operations Centre at Darmstadt in Germany. The thruster burns are an essential part of the orbital correction or rendezvous manoeuvres over the next three months – without them Rosetta would perform a flyby instead of the planned close approach, orbit and landing.
The B-roll contains footage from Rosetta’s mission control centre at the European Spacecraft Operations Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany. It also includes interview clips from Fred Jansen, Rosetta Mission Manager, ESA (English and Dutch); Andrea Accomazzo, Rosetta Flight Director, ESA (English and Italian); Sylvain Lodiot, Rosetta Spacecraft Operations Manager, ESA (English and French).
