EDRS-C will be launched on top of an Ariane 5 from Europe' Spaceport in July.

The European Data Relay System (EDRS) is the most sophisticated laser communication network ever designed.

With EDRS-A already in orbit, EDRS-C will be the second node for EDRS and its first dedicated EDRS satellite.

This system has been designed to enable fast and reliable optical data transfer from low earth orbiting satellites to the ground allowing what is called the SpaceDataHighway.

Dubbed the ‘SpaceDataHighway’, EDRS helps Earth-observing satellites to transmit large quantities of potentially life-saving data down to Europe in near-real time.

This A&B Roll shows images of EDRS C in preparation with interviews with Michael Witting, EDRS Project Manager, ESA, in English and German and Evert Dudok, Head of Communication, Intelligence and Security at Airbus Defense and Space, in English.
