The animation shows variations in density and wind 270 km above the northern hemisphere, on 1–7 April 2010. The measurements of density and crosswinds made by GOCE are compared with values from the NRLMSISE-00 global empirical density model and HWM07 horizontal wind model. A geomagnetic storm on 5 April 5 2010 caused significant changes in both the air density and wind speed over the polar area.
