This movie comprises images recorded with the LASCO coronagraph on board the ESA/NASA SOHO spacecraft.
The movie includes images taken after 7 September, leading up to the coronal mass ejection (CME) event that occurred on 10 September. The big CME is close to the end of the movie, with the solar protons − a flood of subatomic particles − disturbing the images very soon after the CME.
The movie shows the outer corona, and these images are used to estimate the CME speed and direction.
