Why is Meteosat Third Generation important?

Simonetta Cheli, ESA’s Director of Earth Observation Programmes, explains why the Meteosat Third Generation programme is important. The new generation of weather satellites will not only guarantee the continuity of data for weather forecasting from geostationary orbit for the next two decades, but also offers improved resolution and sensitivity of the imaging data and sounding products – taking weather forecasting capabilities to the next level.
