In the REACT project, 12 floating plastic targets were built, placed on- and offshore the Greek island of Lesvos, and detected using satellites. The aim was to better understand the effect of the atmosphere and illumination conditions on the spectral properties of marine plastics in visible and infrared wavelengths. Find out more here.
The project was funded through the Discovery element of ESA’s Basic Activities. It was selected through an Open Space Innovation Platform (OSIP) call for ideas on remote sensing of plastic marine litter.
