Hypervelocity impact testing

A sandwich or honeycomb panel is exposed to an impacting Al sphere of 3 mm diameter at 7.4 km/s. The projectile fragments hit the first facesheet and generate a fragmentation cloud inside the panel, leading to greater damage on the rear facesheet when fragments perforated the second layer.
