EarthCARE’s cloud profiling radar, provided by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), enables EarthCARE to observe the internal structure of clouds. It operates in the millimetre-wavelength range –penetrating through clouds and light precipitation. This provides detailed insights into their vertical structure and velocity, particle size distribution and water content.
This radar is essential for studying cloud processes, such as the formation and dissipation of clouds. It also contributes valuable data for improving weather and climate models.
