The need to fuel our cars and synthesise plastics is as yet showing no sign of a slow down and oil companies have been forced to move further offshore into deeper waters in order to find new and active oil reserves. The resultant cost implications for seismic exploration in deeper waters are huge. Fortunately, new advances in satellite technology are creating alternative techniques and literally billions of dollars in savings to the World Wide oil industry.
Nigel Press Associates, NPA, a specialist Geo-Science organisation, has been utilising ESA satellite radar data ever since the first commercial satellites were available. Data produced by the current ERS satellite is enabling them to look for surface oil seeps that may indicate enough sizeable reserves below the seabed to justify the investment. The information is then made available to the exploration and en
