NASA's 11-day Discovery mission STS-96 was launched on June 6th, 1999. The first flight to dock to the International Space Station [ISS], it functioned as a logistics and resupply mission. STS-96 carried the Russian Cargo Crane [STRELA] to the ISS, and also deployed the STARSHINE atmospheric research satellite.
