2020 marked the 10-year anniversary of the European CanSat competition.

Due to the global pandemic, physical plans to mark this milestone had to be cancelled. Instead, we welcome a global audience to join us on 27 September for the Online CanSat Outreach Event to celebrate this remarkable school project.

A decade of CanSat

Launched in 2010, the CanSat school project challenges students to fit all the major subsystems found in a satellite, such as power, sensors, and a communication system, into the volume and shape of a soft drinks can. The CanSat is then launched by a rocket up to an altitude of approximately one kilometre, or dropped from a platform, drone, or captive balloon. Then its mission begins. This involves carrying out a scientific experiment and/or a technology demonstration, achieving a safe landing, and analysing the data collected.

The project has grown from a few participating teams across Europe in 2010 to over 1500+ students participating yearly from ESA Member and Associate States!

Join us LIVE!

Join us on 27 September for the online CanSat Outreach Event. In this livestream we’ll explore the CanSat project in depth. We will hear from experts on critical components of the project and from alumni of past competitions. We even have a special message from an ESA astronaut!
