The European CanSat Competition 2023 will lift off from Granada
ESA is pleased to announce that the 2023 European CanSat Competition will take place in Granada, Spain, from 26 to 30 June. The competition will be hosted on ESA’s behalf by Parque de las Ciencias and Producciones Científicas y Técnicas (PCyT).
26 teams of secondary school students will gather for an exciting launch campaign, challenging them to fly and operate their CanSat project and present their mission results to a jury of space experts.
The 26 teams will include the winners of the national CanSat competitions going on in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, in addition to teams from Slovenia and Slovakia selected directly by ESA, and a guest team from Japan.
The venues
The majority of the competition events will be hosted in the cultural and scientific environment of El Parque de las Ciencias, or Science Park and Science Museum in Granada, a 70,000 square metre interactive science museum located in Granada, and the most visited museum in Andalusia since its opening in 1995.
The 26 teams will launch their CanSats from Club Aeromodelismo Ciudad de la Alhambra, an airfield situated in Atarfe, about 15 km from the Granada City centre.

The host organization
Producciones Científicas y Técnicas (PCyT), a spin-off company from the University of Granada, will be the local organizer of the CanSat Launch Campaign. PCyT is experienced in rocketry and small satellites research and testing. It has already been involved in the supervision of the Spanish National CanSat Competition and CanSat regional launches in Spain since 2020. Furthermore, the support of Parque de las Ciencias, as key partner of the event, will provide the necessary international expertise to boost the experience of all the participants.
