Astronauts have been taking pictures of Earth from space since 2000, when the first crew arrived at the International Space Station (ISS).

The images in this quiz were captured by ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti during her Minerva mission. While on the ISS, Samantha supported numerous scientific experiments and took many pictures of Earth from the Cupola, a 'window to the world’. Some of these pictures feature in this quiz.

Samantha took this beautiful picture of the Whale Sanctuary, in Mexico. Can you identify what are the pink rectangular shapes on the image?

Being a photographer is not a prerequisite for becoming an astronaut, but it is part of an astronaut’s training. Looking at Earth can help astronauts connect to home.

The main goal of this quiz is for participants to be able to see Earth from a different perspective and feel connected to our beauty’s planet and the need to protect it.
