Core Competitiveness
ESA's Core Competitiveness programme helps European and Canadian industry stay at the cutting-edge of the global satcom market by aiding them in the development of innovative telecommunications products, systems and services.
In consultation with the national delegations of its Member States, ESA forms a close partnership with industry by offering two forms of support.
- Technology push: ESA initiates a call for ideas for the long-term research and developments of new satcom technologies (Advanced Technology Programme) that help to push the boundaries of innovation. This leads to an annual workplan where all activities are fully funded by ESA.
- Market pull: Industry takes the initiative, submitting proposals in which the business plan is a key element to bring a product or service to market (Competitiveness and Growth Programme). Accepted proposals receive up to 80% funding from ESA, proportional to the risk taken.
