Working with Landsat images
  
Glacial lakes are part of a cold, sensitive environment. The growth rate of a lake is an indicator of a potential hazardous situation.
This exercise will show you how to monitor the changes of the lakes on the Imja Glacier tongue including the Imja Tso, a famous lake that has a high outburst hazard potential.

First have a look at the working tool: Satellite images from Landsat TM. Try to find the most suitable colour image for the task. There are different spectral bands available.

With Image>Combine from…>Red Green Blue you can produce colour composites of the single bands.
First, we will combine the bands 3 (Red), 2 (Green) and 1 (Blue). Save the new image as 'khumbu_321.tif'.
Do the same for the following band combinations: 432, 543, and 752 respectively.

1. While looking at the different band combinations, what changes in colours can you note? Describe them.

2. Where do they occur? Which land cover is affected?
