Title: “Who is the astronaut?”

Disciplines: Language and Arts (drama)

Level:2 star

Description: An actor first interviews an astronaut and then tries to fake that s/he is the astronaut answering the journalist’s questions…

Objective(s): Learn about an astronaut’s childhood and experience. Make a role-play game to learn about empathy.

Hints:

  • To make it even more real, you may want to use some accessories such as a microphone, a camera, etc. The microphone can be hand-made, e.g. using aluminium foil around a paper ball fixed to a pen.
  • For older children who can memorise more information, they can use more than one theme from the interview.
  • During the discussion, the children may talk about empathy (without knowing the word…); the quality that one may have to put oneself in the position of somebody else. This quality includes the capacity of listening to the other person by placing oneself in the context of the other person. It is very important for dialogue, in particular to resolve interpersonal conflict and have a social perspective…
