1835: On 14 March 1835, Giovanni Schiaparelli was born.

Schiaparelli was an Italian astronomer who was the Director of the Milan Observatory.

He was the main populariser of the theory that Mars had 'canals'. He also established the connection between the orbits of meteor streams and the orbits of comets.
