On 9 and 10 November 2023, the event 'The National Space Conference 2023' was organised in Odense by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science, the Center for Defense, Space & Security (CenSec) and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU).

Representatives of the European Space Agency (ESA) also took part in the convention. The conference had 300+ participants as well as 50 speakers and panel experts. For the first time, the National Space Conference was accompanied by a Youth Conference for lower secondary education students on 8 November 2023.

The aim of the conference was to bring to light the most salient topics in the field of space in the Danish and European contexts, thanks to the contribution of keynote speakers at the international level. European independence in space, commercial opportunities and challenges in the space industry were the main issues discussed during the event. In addition to several talks on sustainability, security, space commercialisation, education and robots, the conference provided significant networking opportunities as well as a matchmaking session and an evening dinner.

Among the high representatives of the institutions who have taken part in the event: Christina Egelund, Minister of Higher Education and Science, Jens Ringsmose, Rector of SDU, and Toni Tolker-Nielsen, Acting Director of Space Transportation in ESA.

Space today is a key asset, we as societies and citizens depend upon every day. Space serves top strategic agendas – in Denmark and internationally - including the green transition and security, it pushes the boundaries for our technology, and it stimulates the interest in STEM in the younger generation. The National Space Conference gathers the entire space community in Denmark, providing the latest news on top space agendas as well as give an opportunity for the creation of new collaborations and ideas.

The following images highlight the importance of international cooperation in Space in Europe and are a testimony of the synergic cooperation between Denmark and the European Space Agency.
